Queen Size Mattresses

Once you get to a certain age, it is hard to get by without a queen size mattress – especially if you are a large person. I know from experience. I have been living with my girlfriend for about the last six months, and we have been sharing a full size mattress. It is cramped and crowded. The problem is that I am pretty large, and although she is smaller, she tosses and turns all night. For couples like us, queen size mattresses are not just a luxury – they are a necessity.

When we first started looking at queen sized mattresses, We were both overwhelmed by the variety available. It seems like every day, people come up with new technologies for queen size mattresses. There are Sealy Posturepedic mattresses, select comfort mattresses with adjustable air compartments to change the firmness, pillow top queen size mattresses – you name it and someone has invented it. I remember the good old days when all mattresses were more or less the same. Cheap queen size mattresses, of course, were always poorly made and uncomfortable. Nevertheless, if you were willing to pay a certain amount of money, you could almost guarantee that you are getting a good product.

The one thing that we knew that we didn't want was futon mattresses. We had actually given up a futon Queen size mattress for the one we were sleeping on at the moment. You see, even if they are queen size mattresses, futons get pretty uncomfortable pretty quickly. When they start off, they are firm, but reasonably even and comfortable. You get a good nights sleep on them, and you wake up refreshed and recharged. Soon, however, a futon mattress starts to get lumpy. Even sleeping on a bed too small is much better than sleeping on old futon mattresses. However, we were ready to go one step beyond and look at queen size mattresses.

The best thing about shopping for queen size mattresses is trying out all of the mattresses in the store. It is like being a little kid! You get to run around, flopping around on different beds, turning on your sides and testing them out. It took us several hours to pick out the perfect queen size mattress, and in all that time it did not get boring. If I had to shop for queen-size mattresses all over again, you bet I would!
